Today, March 29, the first session of high-level political discussions on energy efficiency in the Republic of Moldova was held in Chisinau, organized as part of the EU4Energy Governance project.

The event was aimed at solving the problem of developing the legal framework for energy efficiency in the Republic of Moldova, the goals set forth in the Energy Efficiency Directive, consolidating the institutions responsible for implementing the relevant policy, and adopting the draft Law on Energy Efficiency.

The event was attended by representatives of the government, parliament, the Energy Efficiency Fund, industry, international financial institutions and civil society.

In the first part of the event the floor was given to the head of the Permanent Mission of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova Ambassador Peter Michalko, Secretary of the Energy Community Janez Kopak and State Secretary (Economic Sector) of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Mr. Vitalie Iurcu.
"We confirmed and continue to confirm that we are open to any cooperation to ensure maximum transparency regarding the use of both public funds from the state budget of the Republic of Moldova and donor funds. I would like to thank you for organizing this event. This is an excellent platform for the debate in this area, and I call for proposals to improve this activity in the Republic of Moldova," said Mr. Vitalie Iurcu.

For his part, Ambassador Peter Michalco stated that "the EU is a strong supporter of the Republic of Moldova in the process of modernization of the energy sector. We do this because we believe that changes in the energy sector can have a significant impact on improving the quality of life of Moldovan citizens, which is the ultimate goal of our assistance to this country."

The event was attended by representatives of one of the most important institutions involved in implementing the initiatives of the EU4Energy, the Energy Efficiency Fund.
"The Energy Efficiency Fund is already implementing a series of ongoing projects to ensure energy efficiency and energy reform, by this way Moldova is entering a new level of energy efficiency. As the energy efficiency potential in Moldova is very high, launching the platform that was organised today is an important tool in achieving the set goals," said Mr. Sergiu Corin, Executive Director of the Fund.

The EU4Energy initiative covers all EU support for improving energy supply, security and communications. As well as improving energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in the Eastern Partnership countries.
