Cantemir Thermal Rehabilitation of Educational Buildings
Published Date: 27.04.2018

Two schools and two kindergartens in the city of Cantemir will benefit in the next three years from comprehensive thermal rehabilitation measures. These investments are being made in the framework of the Project „Cantemir Thermal Rehabilitation of Educational Buildings - CanTREB” implemented by Cantemir Town Hall in partnership with the NGO „Alliance for Energy Efficiency and Renewables” (AEER). This project is being funded through the EU Program: Covenant of Mayors - Demonstration Projects. The official launch of the project takes place now, April 27, 2018 at Cantemir Gymnasium „Mihai Eminescu”.

The project will focus on thermal rehabilitation measures in 4 educational buildings of Cantemir: „Mihai Eminescu” Gymnasium, „Dimitrie Cantemir” Lyceum, Kindergarten no. 1 and 2. The measures will focus among others on insulation of walls, installation of a biomass boiler, optimisation of domestic heating and lighting systems, development of solar energy as well as improvement of energy management and end user’s behavior.

Thanks to these energy efficiency measures it will be possible to improve comfort conditions for education for over 900 children aged 2-17 years. Also, 151 staff members of the educational institutions will benefit from better working conditions. In the same time, it will be possible to save up to 50% of energy per year in these buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 11% of the Cantemir’s Action Plan for Sustainable Energy, reduce operating and maintenance costs by 12%.

On the occasion of the launch of the project, in the „Mihai Eminescu” Gymnasium, the children from Cantemir will present an artistic program, expressing their visions regarding the green future of their town.
Background information:
The Project „Rehabilitation of Educational Buildings in Cantemir – CanTREB” has a total budget of 842,800 Euro, of which 20% represents the local contribution. Thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Energy Efficiency Fund and the EU Programme Covenant of Mayors - Demonstration Projects, Cantemir City Hall will be able to benefit from co-financing sources.

The Covenant of Mayors - Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP) is realised within the framework of a larger initiative EU4Energy and is designed for signatories of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in the Eastern Partnership region. Cantemir Town Hall joined the Covenant of Mayors in 2013, committing itself voluntarily to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020.
